Entry for the Summer 2018 Game Design Contest.
Push is a 2-player abstract game. Complete a line of tiles (horizontally, vertically or diagonally) to win instantly!
Components[]
16, 25 or 36 tiles - depending on board size.
Setup[]
Place the tiles face down in a square grid (4x4, 5x5 or 6x6) so that the yellow and green tile backs form a checkered pattern ("small chessboard").
The player that last played Chess, Checkers, Othello or a similar game with a checkered or grid-based game board starts by picking a colour (green or yellow) and makes the first move.
Play[]
Pick up any of your own tiles along the edge and move it horizontally or vertically to another edge. Then push it towards the empty space the tiles in between are shifted one space. Then the turn passes between the players, until one of them wins immediately upon reaching the win condition.
Example: If you pick up a corner tile, you have 2 options of pushing from the other corner along one of the sides that make up that corner. If you pick a tile in the middle of a side, you have 3 options - you can also push the two corner tiles at each end of that side, or the tile directly opposite the tile you picked.
Winner[]
Complete a line of tiles (horizontally, vertically or diagonally) to win instantly. Depending on the game size, this would be 4, 5 or 6 tiles.
NOTE: If you complete a line of the opponent's tiles, they win instantly - even if you also complete a line of your own tiles simultaneously.
